Why do our kids try so hard to embarrass us in public? Or worse, maybe they’re not even trying! Maybe it just happens. If this is the case, imagine what they could do if they really did try!
They say if you want an honest answer, ask a child. There’s no denying it, a young child will just say whatever pops into their head. They haven’t yet learnt social graces, they have no idea that what they say could offend or upset someone.
I noticed it.
Everyone else notices it.
It’s the truth.
Why shouldn’t I say it?
I think it would be quite helpful if my preschoolers could read and write. And then I’d have them carry around a pad of sticky notes and a pen. Then, instead of just saying whatever pops into their head, they could write it down and hand it to me. Especially since we ALL know how “quiet” a child’s “whisper” is.
Case in point:
And the follow up question:
Or this classic one:
Or then this conversation would have never happened:
Mom, that lady….
Shhhhh….
But that lady……
Shhhhh……
How about those annoying stores that ask for your phone number at the register?
Or when you have to bring your children with you to the very quiet chiropractor’s office and the nice doctor comes over to meet your kids:

KIDS! At least if they say this stuff to another mom, she'll understand.
ReplyDeleteHi
ReplyDeleteJust dropping in to let you know, I have a HUGE giveaway going on! Worth over $13,000! We Don't Have It All Together It's super easy to enter!
Ah yes, children are perfect for embarrassment. The other day we were in Kohls and Tater said "Hey Mom! Can you do this?" and farted. Loud. It was all kinds of awesome.
ReplyDeletePost-it notes are a great idea! JDaniel would probably ask where to put the post-it that contains what he shouldn't say about the lady with funny hair.
ReplyDeleteMy dad is 65 years old and says stuff like that. :-/ It's as if they develop the filter, only to toss it out the window once they hit retirement.
ReplyDeleteThey always call us out when we fudge things in public! Stinkers!
ReplyDeleteHaha kids say the darnest things in public. Or when you try to tell a white lie to someone and they overhear and say no mom it was this way, which would happen when my kids were little.
ReplyDeleteLMAO! Ah, no experiences like this with my kids yet, but boy do I have some experiences with other peoples kids that made me want to just melt into nothing-ness.
ReplyDeleteNo kiddos for me yet, but as a customer service chick, I've heard PLENTY of embarrassing comments spouted by the adorable munchkins waiting for their parents. Especially when mom or dad is fudging the truth - they're like little lie detectors!
ReplyDeleteI have been there too many times...now the kids just stare since they are older and know better than to say anything and that can be just as uncomfortable. New follower..:) Love your style.
ReplyDeleteHaha! I love the phone number one! My son isn't quite here yet, but I have no doubt one day soon I'll want to crawl under a rock because of something he says.
ReplyDeleteStopping by from SITS!
HAHAHA, totally!!! Especially the phone number one, I always give the "fake" one. :)
ReplyDeleteTotally hilarious! Love it!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is when my four year old asks me if I am all done pooping when I just peed (I swear!) in the public restroom.

Omg!! That sounds like going to the store with my kids! My daughter went on and on and on about how cute this"little guy"was at the store once "awww mom look at him look at that little guy! ".....this man was a little person. I couldnt push the cart fast enough. Happy Sits day!
ReplyDeleteThe followup question was quite funny - and makes complete sense.
ReplyDeleteHappy SITS day.
