Things kids say

These little boys of mine are an endless source of entertainment for me.  I’m constantly laughing at the things that come out of their mouths.  I think I’m going to look into becoming a kindergarten teacher because if I’m this entertained by what my own kids say, imagine how entertaining it must be to hear other kid's versions of what’s going on in their home.

Here’s some recent conversations in our home:

CamCam: Mom, I want my blankieeee.

Me: Well, go get it.

Cam: No, I don’t want to go get it.  You go get it.

Me:  CamCam, if you want your blankie, you can go and get it.  I’m not going to get it for you.

Cam: Cause you’re a poopie?

----------

CamCam shut his thumb in a door.

10 minutes later- Cam: Mom, if I suck my thumb will that make it better?

Me: No, you better not, it might make it hurt.  Suck this thumb instead.

Cam: No, I can’t, that’s the wrong way thumb.

----------

I thought my boys acted up because of their age.  Now I’m beginning to wonder if it’s entertainment for them.  I’m in the entry putting the three boys shoes on and getting them ready to go to the pediatrician:

Nolie: Hey mom, let’s play a game.

Me: What game?

Nolie: Let’s play a game that we pretend there are 3 people sitting in the back and there’s one person sitting in the front driving and the 3 in the back try to drive her crazy.

----------

Someone’s developed a lovely three-year old defiant attitude:

Nolie:  Mom, CamCam just hit me and pushed me.

Me:  Cam go up to your room for…

Cam:  NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

~

Me:  Cam, please pick up your toys.

Cam:  Why should I?

----------

It might be time for a little anatomy lesson:

Me: Where’s the dice?

Nolie: Right there, under your bumps.

Me: My what?

Nolie: Your bumps.

Me: (laughing) Those aren’t called bumps.

Nolie: Well what are they then.

Me: They’re breasts.

Nolie: Oh.  Well, they look like bumps to me.

----------

A couple weeks ago when my mom was babysitting them for the weekend, she passed along this story to me.  Nolie and her were throwing a ball back and forth and he was throwing it really hard.

Gickey:  Hey, you don’t want to throw that hard at your grandmother.

Nolie: You’re my grandmother?

Gickey: Yes.

Nolie: Oh?  You don’t look like a grandmother.

Gickey:  Well who did you think I was then?

Nolie:  I thought you were just a really nice lady.

----------

Look out my back door and Nolie and CamCam are standing around our gas tank.

Me: What are you boys doing?

Cam:  There’s a squirrel trapped under there.  We’re trying to get him out.

Nolie:  Yeah, and then we’re going to hit him with this bat!!!

Think it’s time for his first hair cut yet?

Seriously mom?  Do you really think they’ve invented a
baby-proofing knob that can keep me contained?

Between the extra large bottles of baby wash being dumped one-per-bath, giant cans shaving cream being sprayed till empty, the 24 pack of handi-snacks being emptied and crushed in the entry, rolls of paper towels being unraveled to get at the “sword” in the middle, and this- I’m beginning to think that shopping at the big warehouse store isn’t worth it.

If you ever watch my kids, you should know. . .

June 22nd The Dada and I celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary.  We are celebrating early, and going away this weekend.  This is HUGE for us, we haven’t been away overnight without kids in years.  To give you an idea how long its been- last time we went away, we only had 2 kids.

I am fortunate enough to have my mom living close by, and also fortunate enough that she’s agreed to stay at my house for the weekend and watch my fab-five.  In preparation for her arrival, I’ve put together a list for her.

Dear mom, thank you so much for agreeing to watch the kids this weekend.  Here’s a list of things that may help you out:

  • You will want to take a really good shower Thursday evening as there’s a distinct possibility you won’t have a chance to take another until you go home on Sunday.
  • When CamCam sees people with crazy hair, he likes to cut it.
  • “Little Hurricane” no longer asks CamCam to let him out the front door.  He can do this for himself now.
  • On Thursday I will dust, vacuum, mop, catch up on dishes and catch up on laundry to prepare for your arrival.  On Friday morning it will look like I didn’t do a darn thing.  No real advice here, just a warning.
  • If you hear the words “puppy walk” come out of CamCam’s mouth, be on alert- this means he’s going to get his stuffed dog and walk to the end of the road by himself.
  • Pretzels and Blue’s Clues are a magical combination that produce this effect:

IMG_2422

  • You may want to bring ear plugs as there will be a LOT of crying/screaming going on.

IMG_1255

  • When “Little Hurricane” gets mad he spits.  When something doesn’t go his way, he spits.  When someone upsets him, he spits on them.  When he’s looking out the window at his brothers and sister playing without him, he spits.
  • No matter how overtired CamCam and Little Hurricane are, they will refuse to nap.
  • Noise is good.  If it’s quiet, investigate.
  • My little boys love to use sweeping “you never” statements to get you to do things for them.  “You never cut me up an apple.  You never let me play outside.  You never let me do the wii.  You never feed me lunch.  You never play with me.”
  • My kitchen sink always looks like this:

IMG_2426

I am told it does in fact have a bottom, but it’s impossible to find.

  • I believe CamCam and Little Hurricane have a secret stash of markers and crayons that I cannot find, and they will write on things when you’re distracted.  Like couches.  Or beds.  Walls.  Blankets.  Windows.  Each other.
  • When Little Hurricane is doing things he shouldn’t, such as dumping boxes of cereal and crushing them with a truck, or playing in the toilet, don’t count on Nolie or CamCam to clue you in.  They'll just sit there and stare at him with a “I can’t believe your doing this” look on their face.

Most important of all, prepare to be bombarded with sloppy kisses, tiny arms thrown around your neck or waist, and lots of I wuv you’s.  You’ll leave my house on Sunday exhausted, but smiling from ear to ear.

Thanks mom!

Time to cut the cord

The only things I like about winter are that bugs stay out of my house and little boys stay in my house.  I am terrified of bugs and therefore take a sick delight in the fact that they all meet a frozen death once a year.  I am also mom to three fearless little boys who love to be outdoors.  I am heading into my 5th summer in a row where I go into a mini-panic every time I hear the door shut.

Who just left the house?!?  Who’s outside?!?

If Nolie decides to go outside, it isn’t such a big deal anymore.  He understands where he needs to stay.  Plus, he’s old enough now to understand that he needs to let me know when he’s heading out the door.  AND, as an added bonus, he also understands that he needs to make sure the door is shut so that Little Hurricane can’t get out.

CamCam, not so much.  CamCam knows that I want him to stay in the back yard, but there are so many interesting things in the front yard.  And the neighbors’ yard.  And the street.  CamCam has been told countless times he’s supposed to ask before heading out the door, but who can be bothered to track down mom when there’s great fun to be had outdoors?  CamCam also thinks he’s helping Little Hurricane out by leaving the front door open for him.

But mo-om, he really wanted to go play outside!

A few days ago I was in the kitchen cooking dinner when Nolie says to me, “Hey mom, I see CamCam.”  Nolie was at out front window looking out, so I walk over to him and asked him where he saw CamCam.  “Right there,” he points, “down at the end of the street.”  I run out the front door and sure enough, there’s CamCam happy as a clam walking up the street towards our house.

I bring him into the house and ask him what he thought he was doing.  That he knows he isn’t supposed to be outside without telling me and that he never, never, never is supposed to go in the street.  He said he wanted to take his puppy for a walk, and holds up his stuffed dog.  I bring him to the DaDa:

Me:  Every single day I tell CamCam that he can’t go outside without telling me first.  And everyday he gets punished for going outside without permission.  I just now found him walking at the end of the road, he isn’t listening to me, you need to take over.

Dada: (Looking at CamCam) What are you supposed to do before you go outside?

Cam:  Ask mom.

Dada:  And where are you supposed to stay when your outside?

Cam:  Out back.

Dada:  Then why did you just go outside without telling mom and why did you go in the road?

Cam:  I don’t know.

Dada:  You need to start listening to your mother.

Cam:  (mumbling)  bu-sh-pa-tro-me.

Dada:  What?

Cam:  But daaaad…..  she’s always controlling me.

You know you have serious problems when your three year old tells you you’re too controlling.  How the Dada held it together for the rest of that conversation is beyond me, I was in a corner laughing my head off.  He’s a better parent then I.

What DO you do all day?!?!

I think there is nothing that irritates stay at home mom’s more than the genuinely curious stranger who dares utter the words “What do you do all day?”  I suppose some think about how they’re at their jobs all day long, come home and manage to make dinner, clean up the house and take care of the kids needs in the evening and truly can’t imagine what they’d need to do if home all day long.

So what do I do all day?  Let’s see, from morning through dinner, here’s today:

I wake up and feed Nolie and CamCam their breakfast.  While they’re eating I decide that today’s the day I’m going to finally have the dreaded kitchen counter that everything seems to end up on completely cleared away.  School papers are recycled or filed away, everything that needs to go upstairs is put on the stairs, bills are brought down to the office desk, toys are brought to the toy room, remotes are put away, etc, etc.  It looks wonderful.

Nolie and CamCam finish eating and bring their dishes to the sink.  CamCam tells me I really need to do dishes.  He helps me empty the dishwasher, and I fill it.  It is almost full, there’s just enough room for a couple more dishes.  I make a mental note to run it after I eat my breakfast.

I decide to first clean the entry, the smallest and easiest room in the house to clean.  Then I’ll have one clean room!  Put everything away, vacuum up all the dirt and mud.  Success!  While in there, find a note from the school I need to sign.  Put it on the kitchen counter so I don’t forget.

Come up to the main area to pick up toys.  While picking up, see how dirty the bottom half of all the windows are in this room and so wash them.  Nolie and CamCam decide to go play outside.  Great, that will make it much easier for me to clean.  Manage to vacuum the kitchen.  Start picking up toys and while bringing something upstairs realize how much laundry there is to do.  Start a load, and sit down to fold what’s already clean.  Hear yelling outside, stop folding to go and see what they’re fighting about.  Start back upstairs, but notice that kitchen counters need to be washed when I walk by them.  Start washing them, find a nerf bullet behind the toaster, walk upstairs to put it away.  See the huge pile of partially folded clothes, sit down to fold some more.

Hear “Little Hurricane” trying to open the door.  Open the door for him, and he slyly peaks through the door.  Think, “He’s so cute.”  Then think, “What’s that smell???”  Realize it’s poop, and then realize it’s all over his hands.  Wisk him off to the tub.  Go into Little Miss’ room and bleach the wall where the poop art was made.  Strip his bed and add it to the laundry pile.  Try and figure out what else little poopy hands could possible have touched and wash it all.  While cleaning find a note she needed me to mail, throw it down the stairs to put on the kitchen counter so I don’t forget to mail it.

Sit down to fold laundry, see “Little Hurricane” climbing out of the tub.  Bring him down to dress and feed, there’s a knock at the door.  It’s Nolie, bringing me the mail.  I grab it and throw it on the kitchen counter to go through later.

Hear screaming outside, then the front door slam.  Nolie comes in, covered in mud.  I send him back to the entry to get undressed, then upstairs for a shower.  “Little Hurricane’s” mad because I won’t let him outside so he spits his milk all over the floor.  Start to wipe it up and hear CamCam come inside.  He’s even more covered in mud.  Strip him down in the entry, and send him up for a bath.

Lunch time, while we’re eating lunch I look online to see what activities I can sign the kids up for the summer. Print out the info, throw it on the kitchen counter to fill out later.  Turn around and see “Little Hurricane” has finished his lunch and is running his peanut butter hands all over the window and licking the window.  Clean up from lunch and send the boys to the toy room to play.

“Little Hurricane’s” mad they won’t let him play with them so he starts spitting everywhere.  Tell him to stop and think that I really need to mop.

Go back upstairs to switch around the laundry and while putting away a pile realize the kids floors are covered in dirty clothes.  Didn’t I just have them pick this up yesterday??? Oh well, gather it up from all rooms and throw it into the bathroom.

Nolie yells to me that CamCam peed his pants.

Run downstairs and see that not only is CamCam soaked, but he’s been walking all around.  Get him back to the tub, then wash up everywhere I can see pee and make a mental note that I definitely need to mop the floor later.  While washing, see little game pieces under the heaters.  Grab them out and put them on the kitchen counter to put away later.

While I was occupied with that, “Little Hurricane” had reached the bag of animal crackers on the kitchen counter and dumped the entire bag on the kitchen floor in his eagerness to get it into his bowl.

Older two are home from school.  CamCam and Nolie are laughing and pressing their hands and faces all over the big window as they walk by the big window.  Switch over to homework mode and tell the little boys they need to play by themselves now.  They bring their toys out so they can be near us still.

Time to start dinner.  While working on dinner, I’m brought field trip permission slips to sign and returned papers for me to look at.  I tell them to put them on the kitchen counter so I will remember to take care of them later.

After dinner ask my oldest two to fill the dishwasher and run it.  They inform me there’s room for 2 plates, 1 cup and that’s it.

Crap, I forgot to run it after I ate my breakfast.

So what do I do all day long?  Well, the kitchen counters are covered in papers, mail and school stuff, the laundry is all over the place in various phases of “needing to be put away, needing to be folded, needing to be washed and needing to be sorted,” my entry way is full of mud, my floors desperately need to be vacuumed and mopped, my windows are covered in fingerprints and who knows what else, the kitchen sink is full of dirty dishes and there are toys all over the floor.

I guess I do nothing all day.

Boys Have No Shame

I wonder how much cosmetology school is?  Do you think they’d let me go just to learn how to cut boys/men hair?

I was thinking about this the other day when I was sitting in the waiting area of our local hair salon.  I suddenly realized that with four boys, I would be spending a LOT of money to keep their hair cut.  I had just 2 boys to take that day, and with tip it cost me $50.  Right now Little Hurricane just has little toddler curls, he doesn’t need to get his hair cut.  CamCam is TERRIFIED of getting his hair cut, so I just trim it up a little myself as needed.  So when the day comes that I do have to take all four, I’m looking at a $100 a trip!  And their hair grows fast.

Although if I was cutting their hair, then I’d have to deal with the attitude of my 13 year old son.  “I hope I don’t get a talker,” he says in disgust while we are waiting for his turn.

“You’d rather just sit there in silence?” I asked him.  To which he replied, “Yup!”

Unfortunately for him, he did get a talker.  He responded to her questions with his usual one syllable grunts, and she good-naturedly said to him, “Are you not talking to me?  I don’t allow that, I’ll just keep talking and talking until you answer me.”

I let her know that he’s my shy one, and as we are discussing this Nolie is climbing up into the chair next to us to get his hair cut.  The nice lady goes to put the cape on him when he holds up a finger and says: “Wait just a second.  I have to go pee and poop.”

Well I guess we now know who’s not the shy one.

Long time no blog

Let’s say some night you have to run a bunch of errands, and your husband is working until 9PM so you have to take all five kids with you, and when you get home it’s after eight and you are beat and so you decide that even though you really should start putting little people to bed, you sure could use just 15 minutes to relax before you start that endeavor and so you start thinking maybe it’d be ok to just kill a little bit of time on the computer….. DON’T DO IT!

Because you’ll probably come up to this:

Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

A lot can change in a year. Or not.

Last year, in the month of March, I wrote a grand total of four posts.  Four.  Guess I wasn’t inspired very much.  Although toddlers have a tendency to drive you crazy with the exact. same. things. every single day over and over, so wisely I knew you’d probably only want to read about each of these things once.  No sense in us both being crazy.

This year isn’t that much different.  Same problems, different toddler.

My first post was about temper tantrums.  It’s amazing the amount of rage a little body can be filled with.  One minute they’re happily playing along, the next their on the floor kicking, screaming, yelling and rolling around.  And it doesn’t matter where they are, home, car, stores, parking lot- they’ll throw a fit anywhere.  Toddlers aren’t self-conscience, they don’t care that everyone around them is looking at them like their crazy.  Actually, toddlers are pretty smart, they’re probably very well aware that everyone isn't looking at them but looking at us.  So embarrassing.

My second post was probably my favorite post I’ve ever written.  Everything was written from a two year old’s point of view.  I need to remember to do this more often, when you really think about it, there’s a lot of things that are tough about being two.  Imagine how frustrating it must be to KNOW what you want to say, but not being able to say it.  All the thoughts are right there in your head, but no one understands what your saying.  It must be a lot like being in a foreign country where no one speaks your language.  All you want is a glass of milk, and everyone keeps saying “Oh, sorry, I don’t understand what your saying.”  I’d get frustrated a lot too.

Or imagine if people just started randomly picking you up throughout the day and bringing you somewhere else.  You’re sitting on the couch watching TV and someone comes along and carries you up to bed.  Or your happily playing with a group of toys and someone comes and carries you to another room.  Or you see something really cool in the street  and someone grabs you as you run off and straps you into the car.  It’d be frustrating, wouldn’t it?  YOU know where you want to go and where you want to be, but you keep being brought elsewhere.  And your too small to do a darn thing about it.

I wrote about potty training CamCam.

A whole year.

Still not potty trained.

And lastly I wrote about how CamCam was confusing me by asking for one thing and then as I was about to get it, switching to another.  He still does this, but his newest phrase is “actually.”  No matter what it is I’m doing, CamCam pipes up with “actuallllllyyyy, no.”

CamCam, do you want some milk?
Yes (I pour it)  Actuallllyyy, no.  I want juice.

CamCam, do you want to go outside and play?
Yes  (I get him all dressed up)  Actuallllyyy, no.  I want to stay inside.

CamCam do you want goldfish for a snack?
Yes.  (I give him goldfish)  Actuallllyyy, no.  I want pretzels.  (I get pretzels)  Actualllyyy, yes, I want goldfish.

I guess we know who the sucker is in this relationship.

Mama's Losin' It

This post was written in response to Mama Kat’s writing prompt #3: What were you blogging about last year at this time? What has changed?

What’s a toddler gotta do to get arrested?

Don’t you just “love” it when you’re out in public with your kids, and they say something you don’t want them to say?  Isn’t it the best when the quieter you tell them to stop saying ‘x’, the louder they ask why they can’t say ‘x’?

The other day after an afternoon of sledding, The Dada and I decided to stop for hot chocolate on our way home.  We pull into Dunkin’ Donuts  where two police cars happen to be parked and Nolie gasps, “The Police!” We all laughed at him, he sounded like he been avoiding them his whole life and was finally about to be caught.

We all start walking in, and we could see three policemen sitting inside Dunkin Donuts.  “Why are the police here?” Nolie asks.  “I didn’t know police like doughnuts,” he continues.  The Dada chuckled and told him that was enough.

“Why dad?  I didn’t know police like doughnuts.  Why do police like doughnuts?”  he continues to ask through the parking lot.

We get to the door and I stop and say to him, “Ok Nolie, that’s enough.  I don’t’ want you asking that anymore, ok?”

He shakes his head yes, and so I open the door.  Which is exactly when CamCam, in his ever so loud voice, says/yells, “I didn’t know police love doooughnuttts!!!”

Sledding’s Not For Kids

Today was one of those perfect days for sledding, and we took full advantage of it.  It snowed 2 days ago, just enough to recoat all the hills, but long enough ago for it to pack down a little bit.  If you don’t have fresh snow, then it doesn’t take long for the hills to become a giant sheet of packed down snow ice.  I found out the hard way just how dangerous this can be a few weeks ago.

A few weeks ago I took Little Miss, Nolie, CamCam and Little Hurricane sledding.  Although we’ve had an abundance of snow here this winter, the hill had been used a LOT and so had bare spots.  In the spots that weren’t bare, the snow had become so packed down it was as slippery as ice and as hard as concrete.  Not to mention the jumps.  Over the winter, kids make jumps in various spots down the hill, some were quite impressive.    When we got out of the van, Nolie commented on how steep the hill was.  I told him we’d only go half way up, that way it wouldn’t be so scary.  Nolie still was pretty nervous the whole time.  Little Hurricane had a blast being pulled around on the sled by me.  And CamCam had no fear.  He LOVED sledding.  Little Miss was so patient, she stayed low on the hill with the little boys so she could help me out with them.  As we were about to leave, she asked if she could go to the top of the hill for her final run.  I told her sure, and then CamCam said he wanted to go with her.

“Are you sure?  It’s pretty high,” I asked him.  He told me it wasn’t too high, it was fun and he wanted to go.  I’d been watching all these other little kids going down the hill from the top the whole time, so I told Little Miss to wait for CamCam.

“Are you sure mom?” she asked. “It’s really high up here and steep.” I assured her he’d be fine, that she just needed to hold onto him really tight and he’d be ok.  She didn’t agree. “Mom, I’ll just come down there, I don’t think he should go up here.”  I assured her it was ok.  So down they went.

About a quarter of the way down the dad standing next to me commented on how fast they were flying down the hill.

About half way down the hill I started to think this wasn’t such a good idea.

About three-quarters of the way down Little Miss tried to swerve the sled to avoid one of those jumps kids had made, and instead the sled turned over.  I watched as Little Miss rolled not once but twice over CamCam, and then she slid across the snow with him under her.

“That’s gonna hurt,” the dad said.

I started to make my way down the hill, but it was slow going considering I was holding Little Hurricane.  Little Miss kept yelling at me to hurry, that CamCam was bleeding and I needed to hurry.  There's nothing like trying to scale down a hill of ice while holding a two year old, all while your daughter is yelling at you to hurry up because there’s blood everywhere and your 5 year old’s yelling after you, “Don’t leave me up here alone MOM!”

There really wasn’t that much blood, but CamCam’s face was all cut up from being slid across the snow with Little Miss on top of him.  Poor little guy.

Needless to say, that pretty much put an end to me taking the kids sledding solo.  From here on out the little boy to grownup ratio will be MUCH higher.

A Lesson In Cuddlies

All my kids have had cuddlies.  They each chose their own cuddly.  For a period of time they’d have a few different animals or blankies they’d be drawn to, but eventually they would end up with one special cuddly.  I LOVED that my kids had cuddlies because once a cuddly was chosen, they did a marvelous job of falling asleep on their own.  And if they woke during the night, often the cuddly would help them get back to sleep.

LaLa

My oldest son chose this bunny.  It was actually a gift that my great-grandmother had given to my baby sister.  When I married, my sister was only 9 years old and she let me take this bunny to remind me of her.  LaLa liked to hold one of the long ears and suck his thumb.

When LaLa was around 3, he was staying at his grandparents house and he lost his bunny.  They searched their house high and low and never could find it.   About a week earlier one of the ears had fallen off, and I hadn’t had a chance to sew it back on.  I gave it to him and for like a year he went around with this yucky, ratty, hairless ear, sucking his thumb.

Little MissLittle Miss had a blanket for her cuddly.  When I had her, we lived in a townhouse and one of our neighbors made this for her.  It actually was very scratchy, I don’t know why she took to this one.

When she was just over 2, we were at the mall and she fell asleep on my shoulder holding her blankie.  I didn’t realize that she let go of it until we were in the car.  The mall was closing, but I ran though as much of it as I could trying to find her blankie.  I called the next day and no one had turned it in.  I’m sure whoever found it thought it was some yucky rag.

022_22

Nolie had a blankie too.  He called it “blue-one blankie.”  This was a blanket that I had knitted for him when I was pregnant.  He liked to pull the strings on it while sucking his thumb, so eventually “blue-one blankie” became a strangulation hazard.  It was replaced with three “white-one blankies” and eventually Nolie settled on one of those which he still carries around.

Little CamCam has a blue blankie.  It was a gift from a friend of mine, actually it was for Nolie.  CamCam is my only one who doesn’t really carry his cuddly around during the day.  Once in awhile he’ll go grab it, but mostly he just uses it when it’s bedtime.

IMG_1753

Little Hurricane chose a bunny.  When I was pregnant with him, I was at the Gap and Little Miss picked out this bunny.  I didn’t want to get it because we have SO many stuffed animals, but she convinced me because it was so soft.

IMG_0920

He liked to suck his thumb, and then put the bunny in the crook of his arm while holding the hair in the back of his head.  Very complicated cuddler.

IMG_0767

This bunny was ALWAYS with him.  He called it his “beee”.

Last week we were at the mall, and I gave him his bunny.  At some point he must have thrown it, because when we got to the car I realized it was gone.  The mall had just closed, but I ran though everywhere we had been to try and find it.  I banged on the doors of 2 closed stores we had been in, only one let me in. (I hate you Sears!)  I called for 2 days, but noone had it.

Fortunately I knew the brand and size of his bunny.  I’ve been through losing cuddlies before, and so I had looked into getting a backup for him months ago.  But I never bought it.  So onto Amazon I go, when what do I see?

You’ve got to be freakin kidding me.  I did a massive internet search, and found only one site carrying the bunny in the correct size.  Or, I could buy the same bunny, 3” larger from Amazon for half the price.

Now, if you have a child who looses a cuddly, and you are actually fortunate enough to have a chance at replacing said cuddly with an exact replica, TAKE IT!

Not me though, I bought the larger/cheaper one.  I didn’t think 3 inches was that big of a deal.  It took 6 days, and hIMG_2274is bunny finally came.  The week had been hell, and I was so excited when it arrived.  Little Hurricane opened the package and when he pulled off the tissue paper said “my beee!”  He pulled it out, sucked his thumb, and tried to put the bunny in the crook of his arm.  It was too big!

He took that bunny, stuffed it back in the box, put the tissue paper on top, and handed it to me.

Try again mom.

I’ve been trying to force this thing on him yesterday and today, and I think he’s finally starting to accept him.

I just hope his old bunny isn’t “toy story 3-ing” his way back home, only to find out he’s been replaced.

Will Work For Diapers

I have 2 toddlers in diapers full time.  Little Hurricane is small for his age, so he’s still in a Huggies size 3.  This is good for me, because the genius diaper companies charge the same amount for every size pack of diapers, but give you less and less as the sizes go up.  Size 3 still gives me a reasonable amount of diapers.  If I buy the small pack it will at least last the week.

CamCam is a size 5.  Lots less diapers.  CamCam also has a sensitive butt, so his delicate little behind will only tolerate Pampers Cruisers.  He can not use Luvs, not even regular Pampers.  Outside of designer diapers, which I’m sure must exist somewhere (what else would the rich and famous buy, right?) Pampers Cruisers are the crème-de-la-crème in the diaper world.    Which, naturally, equals more money.

Oh wait, I forgot diaper companies are tricky.  Same money, less diapers.

I have one in pull-ups at night.  Pull-ups are about $10 a pack and have all of like 6 pull-ups in them.  Completely ridiculous.

And then of course there’s wipes.  I go through a crazy amount of wipes.  Part of it’s my fault- I realize that the only thing between my hand and all that yuckiness is a flimsy little wipe.  So I like to double up.  The Dada saw me do this once and told me to just use one, I was wasting wipes.  So I told him he could wipe the poopy butts with his one-wipe-covered-hand instead of me doing it if he’d like.

He hasn’t brought it up since.

But the majority of my wipes are used by Little Hurricane.  No matter how high or hidden I keep the wipes, Little Hurricane can get to them.  He LOVES to pull them out of the container.  He likes to wipe furniture with them, he likes to “wash” the floor with them.  If you do not have hardwood floors and have also never been fortunate enough to have someone wash your floor with baby wipes, you may not realize that the two form a deadly combination.

Quite literally.

That wipe leaves some sort of film on the floor that turns it into an instant sheet of ice.  Walk over said spot while wearing socks and you don’t stand a chance.  And he really likes to wash the stairs.

He also likes to throw them.  Every week I lose at least one pack of wipes to this.  He pulls those little buggers out of the pack as fast as he can and throws them across the room.  Ever seen that show Minute to Win It?  On that show they have this one game where the contestant has to pull all the tissues out of a box in under a minute.

Little Hurricane would ROCK at that game.

I caught him on the tail end of this one the other day.

So to everyone that’s ever asked, yeah, it’s pretty expensive having multiple kids in diapers.

One wrong word can make ALL the difference

I love listening to my little boys talk.  Hearing their conversations with one another is adorable.  The stories they tell crack me up.  And my favorite is when they mix up words.  Like when The Dada told Nolie to go upstairs and ask mama where LaLa’s camping mat is, and instead he comes up and asks me to get him LaLa’s map. “Yeah mom, you know, the map, so we can look for treasure.”

But sometimes little language mishaps can happen with older kids and it is JUST as funny.

Last week my 13 year old son had career day in school.  They had a variety of people from different professions in, and the kids could sign up for whatever career they were interested in learning more about.  One was a cosmetologist.  My son and his friend didn’t know what a cosmetologist was, but they knew cosmos had to do with space, so they figured it was someone who did stuff with the stars and space.

They signed right up.

The two of them walk into the room, and my son turns to his friend and says,  “Why’s it all girls in here?”

Naturally when I called told my lovely husband about it, he could not let this one go.  So when he got home from work he pulls our son aside, puts his arm around him and says, “Son, I just want you to know that no matter what it is you choose to do in life, I support you.  I’m always behind you 100%.  I heard you had career day today and so I brought you home this lipstick because I’m behind you bud.”

Here’s another:

Awhile back my oldest two kids decided they wanted to make some money.  I’m not sure where they got this idea, but they decided that they should open a massage store.  Five minute neck rub for a dollar, extra for a snack and water, that sort of thing.  They got me when they said for an extra fifty cents one of them would babysit.  They made up an appointment book and price charts.

And then they made signs.

They decided to make signs on the computer and hang them up throughout our house so that way anyone that came over would see them.  They were working on their sign for like a half hour, and then Little Miss came out and said, “Mom, it won’t print.”

I was in the middle of making dinner, and told her I’d go and look at what was wrong as soon as I was done.  The two of them went off to play.  In the meantime, The Dada comes home from work.  He went into the office to do some stuff, and when he went to print something realized that the printer wasn’t plugged into the computer.  He plugs it in, and out spurts like 20 of the following signs:

massage

“Hey hon,” he comes out and says to me.  “What’s up with this?  Trying to make some extra cash?”  Yes, that’s MY cell phone number on a sign offering to give people a genital message.  Or, you know, if they’d like, a little harder one.

I went laughing to the kids to tell them that they had to redo their sign because they got the word ‘gentle’ wrong.

Toys are SO last year

Little Hurricane is a sophisticated toddler.  He wants nothing to do with those little baby toys.  Nope, he’s going right for the big stuff.

No little learning toy with blinking lights and sounds for him.

comp 2 copy

Laptops are WAY cooler.

And who wants to beat on a little plastic drum or bang on fake piano keys when you can have the real deal?

flute

Little Miss’ flute is so much more fun.

Why would he waste any of his time playing with a Handy Manny tool set when he has this?

tools

How many babies do you know that get to play
with an air compressor?

Don’t even get me started on the fake plastic food and kitchen stuff.  Lame.

You can actually eat what comes out of this baby.

And what about all those silly toddlers still messing with their sippy cups?

Babies.

Well, maybe he’s carried it a bit too far.
